The statement adds, “The family are thankful for your prayers. Please respect their privacy at this difficult time.”

Cynthia was married to John Lennon from 1962 to 1968, and she gave birth to her only child, Julian, in April 1963. After her divorce from John, she married three more times, her last husband being nightclub owner Noel Charles, whom she wed in 2002 and who died in 2013.

Cynthia wrote a couple of books during her lifetime, including 2005’s John, an intimate portrait of her life with the late Beatle.

Julian Lennon has posted a touching video tribute to his mother on a specially created website, cynthialennon.memorial, and on his official YouTube channel. The clip features a montage of photos of Cynthia, Julian and John Lennon accompanied by Julian’s song “Beautiful.”
