Sonja Flemming/CBS The Other One: The Long, Strange Trip of Bob Weir, the 2014 documentary focusing on the founding Grateful Dead singer/guitarist, will make its Netflix debut on May 22.

The movie, which premiered in April 2014 at New York City’s Tribeca Film Festival, follows Bob Weir‘s life, from his early years as a high-school dropout and his involvement with author Ken Kesey‘s Merry Pranksters communal group, through his amazing 30-year adventure as a member of the world’s most celebrated jam band and beyond. The Other One features new interviews with Weir, as well as with his Grateful Dead band mates Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann; various family members; and musical friends such as Sammy Hagar, Bruce Hornsby and Phish‘s Mike Gordon.

The movie also includes concert and behind-the-scenes footage, and takes a look at Weir’s friendship and bond with late Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia. The Other One was directed by Mike Fleiss, whose credits also include the 2011 documentary God Bless Ozzy Osbourne and the popular reality show The Bachelor.

“We certainly unearthed a lot of buried treasure from the Grateful Dead archive while making this film,” says Fleiss. “With Netflix, we have found the perfect global partner to tell the fascinating life story of Bob Weir set against the backdrop of America’s greatest rock band.”

The Other One will be available for viewing on-demand at Netflix in all territories served by the network.
