James O’MaraA longtime friend of Joni Mitchell has been appointed the musician’s temporary conservator.

Leslie Morris was appointed Mitchell’s conservator at a Los Angeles hearing on Monday, People magazine reports. The ruling allows Morris to provide temporary care and support for the 71-year-old musician, who was hospitalized in late March after being found unconscious at her Los Angeles home.

Morris may not take possession of Mitchell’s money or property without a court order.

The conservatorship will remain in effect until July 8.

The most recent health update posted on Mitchell’s website, published last week, denied reports that she was in a coma. It stated, “Joni is still in the hospital – but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected.”
