Late last week I had Char Carberry in here and we talked and talked! By the time our interview was over, I had the opportunity to break it up into a few interviews. She had so much good information for us and she is so passionate about this- it was a blast with her! I played the first part on Friday and was able to get the second part played this morning.

Young racers that came from all over the Upper Peninsula couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day here in Munising for their race. Without a cloud in the sky, the temperature soared in the high 80s as participants were eager to burn some rubber amongst an excited crowd of Soapbox Car enthusiasts. The annual derby went off without hitch Friday afternoon down Cedar Street and this year was very competitive. In fact, the final race pitting each winner from the the Big Wheel bracket and the Small Wheel bracket was so close a re-race was necessary to determine a champion. It was very apparent that these youngsters put their heart and soul into the cars. Patriotism and pride for our country was the common theme featured on most of the cars. Good job and congratulations to all the competitors, it was a very exciting afternoon of racing.

Hollywood Helps Out Our Volunteer Fire Department

Jennifer Champagne is a former Munising resident that now resides in California– as a HOLLYWOOD PRODUCER!!! She is helping to support this years Volunteer Firefighter Fundraiser because she herself was a victim of a fire and was saved by the Munising Fire Department. Jennifer never forgot her roots and certainly never forgot our local volunteer fire department.
Jennifer has many, many friends in Hollywood and some of her movie star friends have donated items for auction at Peoples State Bank this week for the fundraiser. If you get a chance, swing my and check out these Hollywood items! They are fantastic!
I’ve also got to be pretty good friends with Jennifer (what a wonderful woman!) and she has had some of her friends and colleagues call the station to do interviews for WQXO and the fundraiser!
I have had sooo much fun with these interviews! Some of the people I have had the pleasure of interviewing are: Jennifer Champagne herself, our very own local celebrities Fire Chief Dan Malone and Assistant Captain Ryan Anderson, Max Ryan- the breakout star from Sex In the City 2, Garrett Warren- Choreographer on the movie Avatar, and Michael Madsen- from tons of movies like Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill 1&2, Strength and Honour.
