As the first quarter of play in the Munising Mustangs vs the Newberry Indians started in Munising, the wind was howling. Fall was in the air as the Munising Mustangs kicked-off to the Newberry Indians to start the game. On the Newberry Indians first drive, Colin Immel intercepted an attempted pass from the Newberry Indians quarterback, giving the Munising Mustangs an early advantage. That interception led the Munising Mustangs to score a 27-yard field goal for three early points despite the strong winds, making the score the Munising Mustangs 3, and the Newberry Indians 0. The quarter ended with both teams trading the ball back and forth, but neither team was able to put any further points on the board.

Second quarter action started with the Newberry Indians in control of the football, but the first drive of the quarter led to the Newberry Indians punting the ball to the Munising Mustangs. The Munising Mustangs fought hard to gain yardage against the Newberry Indians defense. The Munising Mustangs first drive of the quarter took up nearly five minutes of clock-time, and a loose football gave the Newberry Indians a chance, but the Munising Mustangs were able to recover the fumble. A long run gave the Munising Mustangs their first touchdown of the game, and they were able to add a good extra point to make the score the Munising Mustangs 10 and the Newberry Indians 0 with 5:05 left in the half. The very next drive by the Newberry Indians led to a punt and a would have been 90-yard touchdown run from the Munising Mustangs, but it was brought back by a ‘block in the back’ penalty. Multiple penalties on the punt led to the Munising Mustangs having possesion of the football deep in their own territory. More penalties kept the Munising Mustangs from advancing, forcing them to punt to the Newberry Indians from deep in their own territory as the first half began to wind down. The first half came to a close with a score of the Munising Mustangs 10 and the Newberry Indians 0.

The second half of the game started with the Newberry Indians kicking-off to the Munising Mustangs. The wind was still howling, and rain loomed in the distance as action resumed. Strong play-calling led the Munising Mustangs to another touchdown and good extra point kick to make the score the Munising Mustangs 17 and the Newberry Indians 0, with just over five minutes left in the quarter. Wind continued to be an important factor in the game, making passing into the wind nearly impossible as night crept onto the field. Cory Cody caught a short touchdown pass for the Munising Mustangs, making the score, after the good extra point kick, the Munising Mustangs 24 and the Newberry Indians 0. The quarter ended without any more scoring.

The final quarter of play started with the Munising Mustangs in posession of the ball, and the wind continued to be a major factor. Garrett Blank made a tremendous run early in the quarter for 50+ yards to score another touchdown for the Munising Mustangs. A good extra point attempt made the score the Munising Mustangs 31 and the Newberry Indians 0. The Newberry Indians fought hard to make a comeback with less than 10 minutes left in the game. The Indians were able to score a touchdown on a run late in the game, but an attempted two-point conversion failed, making the score the Munising Mustangs 31 and the Newberry Indians 6. An attempted on-side kick from the Newberry Indians was not successful, which gave the Munising Mustangs excellent field position on their own 41 yardline to start their drive. Alex Hill was able to score another touchdown for the Munising Mustangs on a completed pass. Another good extra point made the score the Munising Mustangs 38 to the Newberry Indians 6, with just minutes left in the game. The Newberry Indians were able to score a 40+ yard touchdown pass to make the score the Munising Mustangs 38 and the Newberry Indians 12 after another failed two-point conversion attempt. The Newberry Indians again attempted an onside kickoff, but the Munising Mustangs were able to recover the ball, once again, giving them very favorable field position with just over three minutes remaining in the game. Despite favorable field position, the Munising Mustangs were unable to put any further points on the scoreboard.
