Mustang Fans Pack The Stands At The Superior Dome

Marquette, MI November 21, 2014 – Your Munising Mustangs took on the Beal City Aggies at the Superior Dome in Marquette, MI for MHSAA Football State Playoff Semifinals on a cold, windy Friday night. Charlie and Chase Nebel and Zach Bougie brought you all the action on WQXO.com and WQXO 1400 am GTO Good Time Oldies.

The action began with the Munising Mustangs kicking off to the Beal City Aggies. Despite both teams fighting hard to move the ball in their favor, neither team scored in the first quarter. Andy Cooper continued to reign as kick-off king, and Garrett Blank did his best at running  back to put some points for Munising onto the scoreboard.

First Quarter Score:

Beal City Aggies: 0

The second quarter was another defensive chess match, with neither team getting into field goal range until the last minute of the half. The Munising Mustangs had a scare when a long field goal attempt at the end of the quarter was returned 85 yards before the Mustangs made a touchdown-saving tackle to keep the game scoreless going into the second half.

Mustangs Win 10-7 Over Beal City

Beal City drove into Mustang territory on the first drive in the 3rd Quarter, but the Mustangs held strong and got the ball back halfway through the quarter.  Garrett Blank scored a huge touchdown thanks to a terrific block by Corey Cotey with 3:17 left in the 3rd Quarter to put the Munising Mustangs up 7-0. The Aggies responded immediately by scoring a touchdown on the following kick off, making the score 7-7 as the third quarter came to a close.

Beal City Aggies: 7

The Munising Mustangs went into the 4th quarter tied 7-7 with the Beal City Aggies. The Mustangs drove the ball into scoring range, and kicked a field goal to take a 10-7 lead with 6 minutes left in the game. Beal City responded with an effective drive, taking them into the red zone with just under 4 minutes left. The biggest play of the game occured when the Mustangs defense stopped Beal City on 4th and 8 in the red zone, forcing a turnover on downs to get the ball back. A giant run by Garrett Blank got the Munising Mustangs a crucial first down with 1:02 left, giving the Mustangs enough room to run the clock out for the 10-7 win.
