03/02/2015 Munising High School, Munising, MI – Your Munising Mustang boys were set to play the Mid Peninsula Wolverines on a beautiful early March day. The Mustangs were in for a tough fight, and it was sure to be an exciting game! The Mid Peninsula Wolverines won the toss, but were unable to score on their first drive. The Mid Peninsula Wolverines were able to stay with the Munising Mustangs for the majority of the first quarter. However, toward the end of the quarter, “big” Ben Stasewich drove to the basket and was fouled for three quick points. On the next play, Stasewich made another great play when he flat-out rejected a Wolverine player to allow the Mustangs some space. With one minute left in the first, Andy Cooper nailed a three-point shot from downtown to move the Mustangs even further ahead of the Wolverines.

The Munising Mustangs continued their domination that was the first quarter by starting off the second quarter by scoring three fast points on another long three-pointer. Nick Cercone continued to play well, with five total points through the first quarter and into the second. Garrett Bland did a great job helping the Mustangs’ defense, contributing multiple times to steals. With 2:33 left in the half, the score was 36-10, and the Mustangs’ domination continued as Andy Cooper stole the ball from the Wolverines two plays in a row. The half ended with the Mustangs heavily in control of the game.

Mid Peninsula Wolverines: 14
Your Munising Mustangs came out of the locker room with just as much intensity as they had in the first half, but the Mid Peninsula Wolverines seemed to bounce back into the action. Halftime must have been a needed reprieve, because the Wolverines went on a 13-10 scoring run halfway through the third quarter. Michael Graves nailed a long field goal to give the Mustangs two more quick points with three minutes remaining. The Mid Peninsula Wolverines seemed to have foul trouble throughout the first half and into the second half of play, and this put the Mustangs into the double bonus, which only increased the Mustangs’ lead.

Mid Peninsula Wolverines: 30
As the final quarter of action began, the Munising Mustangs’ Nick Cercone continued to dominate the Mid Peninsula Wolverines, along with “big” Ben Stasewich and several other Mustang players. The Wolverines appeared worn-out, but they continued to give it their all, despite the difference in the score. Garrett Blank continued to be a monster on defense, shutting down the Wolverine players time and time again. With the Mustangs looking ahead to the playoffs, the game came to a close as both teams continued with their excellent sportsmanship.
