Throughout the day, there will be family-friendly events like a Mini Sled Fun Run for kids 10 and under, a sawdust pile treasure hunt for the kids, a 50/50 raffle, silent auctions, and a spin to win wheel!
And for the serious sled enthusiasts, there’s a loud pipes contest at 1 pm with the All-New Engine Blow Up Contest immediately after. The groups were bright, friendly and some even showed off a lot of exciting sounds! This year, Sunny.fm, 103FXD and WRUP were well represented for Great Lakes Radio. Todd Noordyk, our leader here at Great Lakes Radio Inc., was heading up our vehicles with Adam Carpenter from the Outdoor Show. Adam was driving a stylish Kawasaki Mule from Zambon’s in Marquette with Miss Pre-Teen Great Lakes State and Miss Pre-Teen Upper Midwest in a boat behind excitedly passing out candy with smiles and waves.

Bill Tibor was next in the WRUP van with Mike and Walt from the Sunny Morning Show saving the day and completing our line-up in the Sunny.fm van with flashing lights.
There was a all-around great showing of floats and groups on this warm and wonderful Independence Day. The Marquette High School Class of 1971 float especially eye-catching with their VW Van structure and ’70s throwback decorations. Another parade favorite was the veteran and military groups who were well represented and respected throughout the parade.

This morning I had the pleasure of interviewing Dave and Amy freeman from Minnesota. They are canoeing and sailing to DC in 100 days to deliver a petition to the president to stop a mine from going into the wilderness area where they work. They also have a website called dave or amy@wildernessclassroom.org where they can hook up to classes via skype and talk to students about there adventures in the wilderness.
If you would like o sign their petition you may go to paddletodc.org and sign it. this is to stop the mine from going in that would mess up the fishing.

I love the Union Grill Burger – your basic burger served on a kaiser roll. The Union Grill also has savory BBQ chicken, pulled right off the bone and served on a kaiser roll (my mouth is watering just thinking about it!). There’s also a large selection of wines and beers – many from local breweries – to choose from. Of course, the best part is after dinner, so I always make sure to save room for some cheesecake.
Come enjoy the Union Grill in Marquette today – and get a taste of some authentic barbeque, right here in the U.P.
