MMH to host annual Health Fair on September 17

Munising Memorial Hospital will host the “Good Health in Every Season” Health Fair on Saturday, September 17, in the Munising High School gym from 8am-Noon.

This free event offers a number of health maintenance tests, including stroke screening, blood pressure checks, spinal health screening, cholesterol/glucose testing, footwear education, and ABI screening, which tests the blood flow to the legs and feet.

New this year, the Health Fair will include testing for Alpha-Antitrypsin Deficiency (AAT), which occurs when the body does not make enough of a protein that protects the lungs and kidneys from damage. This test is recommended for all COPD patients, as well as others with asthma that doesn’t respond to therapy, those with liver disease of unknown origin, and patients with early-onset emphysema.

Flu shots will also be available at a cost of $35, with a cash discount of $10. Private insurance will not be billed but a receipt will be provided for reimbursement purposes. Medicare/Medicaid will be billed, so patients are encouraged to bring the appropriate card.

Kids will find information and fun at the Health Fair. Free bike helmets, bike and fire safety education, arcade jumping games, and a variety of prizes and drawings will be offered at the event.

MMH is joined by a long list of participating agencies from around the region that provide information, screening services, prizes, and more.

As part of this year’s event, attendees are invited to bring a non-perishable food donation, which will be given to a local food pantry.
