(Munising, Michigan) – The Munising Bay Arts Association (MBAA) and friends are gearing up for the group’s annual Munising Bay Arts Festival.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, June 29, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and will feature a variety of artists from the U.P., northern Wisconsin, and lower Michigan. As in the past few years, the festival will be held at Bayshore Park on the beautiful Munising Bay shoreline.
The festival has been just one part of a reviving arts scene in Munising, which now includes several weekly events that feature works by MBAA members, youth and adult art classes, and art displays throughout town. A new Arts Learning Center is also in the works, in order to build on the availability of arts learning experiences in the central U.P.
The Munising Bay Arts Festival event aims to gather these local artists, as well as additional visual artists and musicians from around the region, into a full day of celebrating creativity. This year’s juried lineup includes a great selection of visual arts, including photography; acrylic paintings; metal art; wood and stone work; wirewrapped, metalsmithed, and other types of art jewelry; mixed media artworks; rug hooking; and more. Body and hair art will also be available for interested individuals.
A musical lineup at the Bayshore Park pavilion will also provide festival goers with a taste of the audible arts, ranging from folk tunes by the Goldmine Girls and the Falling Rock Jammers, to a variety of rock cover tunes by Piqpoket. Western Alger County youth duo Off Axis will play, as will Darrell Syria with his unique Finnish reggae tunes.
Food will also be available during the event, including bread oven pizzas baked by a local family, the Cooking Carberrys, for the benefit of local non-profit groups.
More information regarding the festival may be obtained by calling 906-202-1640, or visiting the Munising Bay Arts Association on Facebook.
