Munising, MI – The Munisng Mustangs have completely turned their season around, winning five in a row following their 0-3 start. Led by the tandem of WR Andy Cooper & QB Austin Kelto, the Mustangs were able to win a crucial game in the playoff picture. Cooper scored all of Munising’s points as he caught two touchdowns from Kelto, also kicking two extra points and a 25-yard field goal. Once again, Cody Hayes shouldered a heavy workload as he carried the ball an impressive 28 times for 102 yards. This victory puts the Mustangs one win away from clinching a playoff berth for the second time in three years.
The only thing standing in between the Mustangs and the (guaranteed) playoffs is a 7-1 L’Anse team that will be visiting Munising this Friday night. If Munising wants to knock the Purple Hornets down to the two-loss ranks, they’re going to have to play fairly good defense. L’Anse has averaged just under 37 points per game this season, and their only loss came at West Iron County, who boasts an 8-0 record themselves. However, the combined record of L’Anse’s opponents, not counting West Iron County, is 15-42. N0t exactly the highest competition, so their numbers may be a little inflated. Against the Wykons, the Purple Hornets only managed 14 points, so we may be in for a defensive battle that Munising will need to win if they want a guaranteed playoff berth.
Be sure to tune into AM 1400 this Friday night as Charlie Nebel will have the call. Pre-game is at 6:30pm and kickoff is at 7pm EST. Go Mutangs!
