Munising Mustangs (64) defeat the Suttons Bay Norsemen (24)

Mustangs (64) vs Norsemen (24) – 8 Man High School Football faced off on a cool, cloudy and wet Saturday afternoon. Control of the ball was a critical component in the this match up and both teams did their best to keep the ball under control and their feet planted. Mustang came into today’s game 4-0. Congratulations to the JV Mustangs for their defeat of the JV Norsemen just prior to Varsity action.

Mustangs received the opening kick starting their first offensive drive on their own 15 yard line after a 5 yard return. Kain Neble with a 17 yard run and is followed with more completions as the Mustangs continued to move the chains down the field. Their 85 yard drive ended after just 5 carries with a 40 yard touch down run by Neble and with a 2 point completion the Mustangs off to an early 8-0 lead. Norsemen returned suit on their first offensive drive with a touchdown bringing the score 8-6. First Quarter ended Mustangs leading 8-6.

Second Quarter started with Norsemen jumping the snap and it became Mustangs 1st down on the Norsemen 20 yard line. Neble with his second touch down of the game and 2 point completion brought the score to 16-6 with 11:47 left in the first half. Both teams had turn overs as the second quarter progressed. First half wrapped up with a score of Mustangs (16) – Norsemen (12)

Norsemen with the ball at the start of the second half and fought their way across the field. Neble went down with an ankle injury, and was helped off the field to get it looked at and taped. With the backup quarterback Tyler Nelson now covering on the field, Mustangs connected for a big touchdown bringing the score 24-12 with just over 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

Nebel went back in and was able to connect with Micaiah Peramaki running right down the seam with a catch level with the Norsemen’s safety and there was no way he’d be caught, Mustangs now lead 32-12. Nelson back in with the Mustangs having a comfortable lead and in hopes to further protect Nebel’s ankle. Norsemen with a touchdown, score at the end of the 3rd quarter Mustangs (32) – Norsemen (18).

Peramaki opens the last quarter with a 41 yard touchdown run, with a 2 point pass caught by Chad Trepczyk Mustangs lead 40-18. Multiple flags on multiple plays and the Norsemen were able to cross the goal line once again, Mustangs still leading, 40-24. Mustangs with the ball again and while not able to take much time off the clock they scored again bringing their lead to 48-24. Peramaki gets the ball and makes a 27 yard touchdown run, score 56-24 Mustangs with 3:42 left in the game.  Jamisen Ake intercepted a pass intended for Norsemen Luke Gallager which quickly turned into another Mustang touchdown for Peramaki with a 64 yard touch down, Cody Lincoln completes the 2 point, score 64-24 Mustangs.
